Spring has arrived and the gardens and trees in the Woodside neighborhood are a delight.  Some gardens are manicured, some wild, some lush, but they are all vibrant with color.  The trees are green and we have our share of beautiful red maples.  Spring makes me breath deeper and I easily slip into a deeper practice with more awareness.  So much seems new even though I’ve done it all so many times before.   Everything in nature is calling me to observe.  I am happy for the longer days and the feeling of renewal.  Weekday classes continue to be held on Mondays and Thursdays, but now it is light when the class ends.  The class times can be found in the Classes and Workshop tab on this website.   Come June, check back to this page for an update as I expect there will be some schedule changes in July and August.

Special Events

This class is scheduled to take place the first Friday of the month throughout the rest of the winter and spring. The classes will take place from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

Students must pre-register for the class. The class is limited to 7 students, is 2 hours in length, and the fee is $30.00.  This is a popular workshop, if you are certain that you want to take this workshop, I suggest you pay for the class in advance to guarantee your place. The registration fee is not refundable.

Description:  The class will start with centering and slow stretches, progressing to quieter segments that include eye exercises, restorative poses, candle gazing, deep breathing and relaxation.  A restorative yoga practice relies heavily on the use of blankets, cushions and other props to help the body lengthen without effort and release tension. Typical supported restorative postures are:  simple back bends, twists, forward folds, hip openers, and/or legs up the wall.  Slow and deep breath work is an important part of the practice. This restorative experience is similar to conscious relaxation (savasana) at the end of a yoga class.

Class is 50 minutes, from 1:00-1:50 PM. Students must pre-register for class. The fee is $10.

Description: This is a gentle class where most of the poses will be seated or poses lying on the back, side, or front body. This class is designed for students who may be feeling frazzled and want a quiet environment with no fuss postures that allow you to move slowly and effortlessly with your breath, students seeking a gentler practice, or a student who wants to introduce a friend to a beginner level yoga class.

Class is 50 minutes, from 2:00-2:50 PM. Students must pre-register for class. The fee is $10. .

Description: You will be practicing classic yoga poses with the support of the wall, chair, and blankets, generally holding the supported poses for 5 minutes. The longer holding will give you a chance to relax into the poses and you can feel your muscles and breathe change as you let yourself relax and stretch deeper. This is a class that emphasizes relaxation in the postures. The class is suited for students who have previous yoga experience.

Class is 50 minutes, from 3:00-3:50 PM. Students must pre-register for class. The fee is $10.

Description: This is a more vigorous class where postures will be linked one to another so that there is continual movement, although there are places in the sequence where it is easy to stop and re-join the flow after you have rested. The class consists primarily of standing postures and moves to floor poses towards the end for a cool down and relaxation. A year of yoga experience is required.

Class is 50 minutes, from 4:00-4:50 PM. Students must pre-register for class. The fee is $10.

Description: This is a short a practice that emphasizes seated, reclining and standing twists. The sequence will move the spine in all directions, and poses other than twists will be incorporated to provide a well rounded practice. This class is intended for students with at least one year of yoga experience. Due to the number of twists this class is not suited to students suffering from disc problems anywhere in the spine.

On May 20, if you want to take all four sessions, you can turn this into a half day retreat. Simply come at 1:00PM and participate in all the sessions. After the 4th session, the students attending the half-day retreat will stay for an additional pranayama (breathing) and relaxation period from 4:50 to 5:15. The cost for the four sequential sessions and the special pranayama and relaxation segment at the end is $40.00.
